Captain’s Bar

The friendliest folky bar in Edinburgh

Captain’s Bar

William McGonagall, the world’s best-worst poet, spent his last miserable days living above the Captain’s Bar. McGonagall always claimed to have been born in Edinburgh, but was most likely born in Dundee, fibbing about his birthplace to make himself seem more respectable.  He is celebrated to this day as the worst poet in the world, and today the Captain’s Bar continues in his literary tradition with spoken word events, music and literature. It’s good literature, though: honest.
