Robert Fergusson was a poet, and a great influence on Robert Burns. His statue, poised outside Canongate Churchyard, was unveiled on 17 October 2004.
Sculptor David Annand was commissioned by the Friends of Robert Fergusson following a competition in 2001 to find a sculptor to make a memorial.
Robert Fergusson can now be seen walking down the Canongate clutching a book to his chest, coat tails flapping, perpetually in motion. It’s fast become one of Edinburgh’s most popular statues, and visitors can often be seen posing with him.
