Sherlock Holmes statue

Sherlock Holmes statue

The Sherlock Holmes statue was erected in 1991 as a tribute to his creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The statue was commissioned to mark the birthplace of Conan Doyle, who was born in Picardy Place in 1859. It was removed from its place in 2009 to make way for the tram constructions and was found to be hiding a time capsule. Both the statue and capsule were reinstated in 2011 after the statue underwent some restoration.
