Blackwell’s Bookshop in Edinburgh celebrated the launch of the 10th year of its Children’s Giving Tree today with previous Edinburgh Makar, Ron Butlin.
Every year Blackwell’s Bookshop organises its Children’s Giving Tree, a special way for customers to gift a book to a child in Edinburgh who is living in difficult circumstances over Christmas.
To celebrate another year, Blackwell’s is working with local children’s charities and women’s shelters to find particular books or books on subjects children would like. These requests are then written on Christmas tags and displayed on the ‘Giving Tree’ in the Children’s department of the shop.
Members of the public can then select a tag from the tree and buy a book for one of the children. Just before the holidays the books will be wrapped and handed over to the organisations who give them to the children for Christmas.
This year Blackwell’s is working with Edinburgh Young Carers, Edinburgh Women’s Aid, CHAS and other local organisations.
