I was seized with a keen desire to see Holmes again... He was pacing the room swiftly, eagerly, his hands clasped behind him.

One Book One Edinburgh 2008 - Jekyll and Hyde

So your school has thrown itself onto the One Book – One Edinburgh Jekyll & Hyde reading campaign. Now what ?!

Jekyll & Hyde at Your School

Well, we will give you a few pointers and links that can help you with your projects. Chances are you have been given assignments, so we might as well throw in some fun!

Robert Louis Stevenson's story has inspired many authors, movie makers, comic artists, game designers and other folk to get very creative, and a lot can be tasted online. It would be a waste not to show you some of the stuff that has enthused so many people over the years, so check out our links. Oh, and don't miss the YouTube and the graphic novel page.

We hope that you will enjoy the story - whichever version that you are reading. And that, just like last year during our Kidnapped campaign, you'll get a chance to write your own stories, make your own movies, draw your own comics, transform a teacher, create your own posters, research reports, stage your own plays, make Jekyll & Hyde potions in the lab, etc. Have some fun!

And if you like Jekyll & Hyde and Kidnapped, we have some more book and comic suggestions that might be right up your street.

Don't forget to ask your teacher or librarian when you are looking for other things, but need some help with finding them!

The Book and the Author

Further Information

Like so many Edinburgh authors, Robert Louis Stevenson has conquered the world with his stories. He lived in a very different era, but the Edinburgh that he knew well, and wrote about, can still be seen around town if you know where to look. Jekyll & Hyde might be set in London, some of the inpiration came direct from our city.

Puzzles and Activities

A couple of projects to get your teeth stuck into. Find the words that are Hyding in our Wordsearch, and find out how good you are at adapting a graphic novel from the book text, by going head to head with the author who wrote many Batman stories, using original artwork from the person who drew Judge Dredd and Star Wars!

Books, Movies and Bugs Bunny Cartoons

Jekyll & Hyde, like Dracula and Frankenstein, have become part of our day-to-day culture in a way that few stories manage. Many people have paid tribute to the original story by including the characters in familiar and unfamiliar settings, by re-inventing the story from almost scratch, or by spoofing it. Below are a few galleries that give a glimpse of the many faces of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde.
