Jekyll & Hyde - Free Books

In February 2008, One Book – One Edinburgh gave away 10,000 free copies of a brand new paperback edition of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde. So where did the free books go?
Most of the free copies were distributed through Edinburgh's public libraries on 22 February, and at many of our Jekyll & Hyde public events. All 10,000 books have now been claimed.
Other copies went out through the following outlets:
Book Groups - advance copies were given to groups across the city, after they registered with us. Contact us if you'd like to involve your Edinburgh-based book group in future projects.
High Schools - class sets of 36 free books were sent to schools in January: see our Schools pages.
Community Groups - adult learners and community centres received free books through our community partners: see our Community pages for more information.
Competitions - our media partners gave away copies, Ocean Terminal ran a Treasure Hunt and you can win a graphic novel on our website.
Bookcrossing - Jekyll & Hyde appeared on park benches, in coffee shops and on buses. Each of these books has a unique number, and we hope to track them across the world. Copies of 2007's Kidnapped have appeared in Hong Kong, Kolkata and Barcelona!

The Free Paperback Edition
The free edition features sketches from grahic novel artist Cam Kennedy, introduction by City of Literature Trustee Ian Rankin and a new book group reading guide. Find out more about the book, including the new graphic novel, on our Jekyll & Hyde Editions page.
