Press Coverage & Endorsements
The launch of our campaign has made the press in both The Herald, and as part of the Scotsman's book club. Our partners at Educated Pass, a youth project that links sport and education, held a Golden Goal conference, as reported by our partners the University of Edinburgh.
Brian Blessed, renowned actor, explorer and raconteur said: “When I was a child I dreamt of reaching and exploring the mysterious and primeval plateau of Mount Roraima – the fabled ‘ Lost World’ immortalised by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in his book of the same name. I feel that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s book is a masterpiece of imaginative fiction, it is my favourite adventure book and I urge all lovers of adventure to read it.”
Jasper Fforde, fiction author, has written the first installment for The Lost Book microstory competition, and commented: “This is the most interesting collaborative book-writing experiment of the decade".
Dr Gavin Wallace, Head of Literature at the Scottish Arts Council, said “The sheer scale and vision of The Lost World campaign is powerful proof that the book is one of our greatest and most enduring species – and a perfectly-formed one too. It’s very thrilling that the specimen in this case is a book by one of Scotland’s most celebrated and adored authors: Natural Selection!”
Sir Sandy Crombie, Chair of the Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust, said: “Our last two reading campaigns have been wonderfully successful. Thanks to our partners, this year we have another great programme of events over the next month with more than 50 organisations coming together to celebrate reading and a great Scottish author.”
Karen Cunningham, Director of the Aye Write! Bank of Scotland Festival said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to bring together readers from Glasgow and Edinburgh to celebrate one of Scotland’s most popular writers – we hope this will engage children of all ages to ‘explore’ the fun of reading.”
George Grubb, Lord Provost of Edinburgh said: "Offering thousands of free books every year, One Book One Edinburgh really is an event to look forward to. This year's classic tale of giant beasts, adventure and exploration is pure entertainment and I'm sure the people of Edinburgh will be engrossed from start to finish. Edinburgh is a great literary city and this event demonstrates our commitment to promoting the benefits of reading and gives many who would not normally pick up a book the chance to experience and enjoy a great story."
