Digitally Evolved

Digital Evolution was under discussion last Saturday evening, with sci-fi writer Ken Macleod, in our Skinny magazine sponsored Lost World event.  Continuing the high-tech theme, Ali & Anna from City of Literature got a sneak preview of the beautiful Paper Cinema - performances are coming to schools and The Forest Cafe's Golden Hour.

We've now updated our links to the fab audio versions - you can listen for free to the BBC audiobook and the abridged version of The Lost World.  You can also read along for free by downloading the books.

After a busy weekend giving away free books, we've had time to come back into the office (trudging through the snow clouds) and upload pictures of our weekend of dinosaur fun.

The Lost World Read has begun!

Starting with a special Lost World day at Central Library (pics will be on our Gallery page soon), which featured our giant pterodactyl, live South American music and bucks fizz, we began the big book giveaway. We continued the campaign with our first event - a poetry reading as part of the Lost Worlds poetry trail in the Glasshouses at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. There are still some books left, so get to your local Edinburgh library now.

Scottish launch of The Lost World Read

With the help of Charles Darwin, Arthur Conan Doyle, Culture Minister Linda Fabiani and a giant pterodactyl, we launched the campaign to the press this morning at Dynamic Earth.  We also unveiled the first episode of The Lost Book - you can see it at www.thelostbook.net - and let our big secret out of the bag: bestselling author Jasper Fforde has written the first installment of our microstory competition.  Now it's all over to you - submit your 100 word stories to 100words@cityofliterature.com.

Books are sent to schools

With the help from staff at the City of Edinburgh's Information and Learning Resources department, City of Literature staff packaged up and sent out all of the free books for schools.   Teachers, keep an eye out for them...

The books arrive!

Van loads of books arrived at the City of Literature offices, ready for distribution to events partners and book groups who have registered with us. It's the first glimpse of the new books for the office staff.  All 35,000 have now been delivered.

Our first pages for the 2009 Campaign go live

After months of preparation behind the scenes, our attention is now shifting to getting the third citywide reading campaign on the road. Today, the first pages for the 2009 Reading Campaign are made available to the public. It has the campaign overview including a listing of all the events, information about the different The Lost World editions, and a seperate section for local schools that will be joining in.
