The motto of Edinburgh, as you might still see it, I think, carved over the old castle gate, is "Sic Itur ad Astra" - "This way to the stars."

G K Chesterton

Paper Cinema

This is a specially commissioned 35-minute adaptation by the extraordinary and highly original Kora & the Paper Cinema. It explores Conan Doyle’s The Lost World though puppetry and music.

Hand-drawn marionettes are projected onto a white screen, and animated, to tell a fairytale-like version of The Lost World, accompanied by improvised live music by Kora.

Four gentlemen set out on a head long journey across a continent searching for the existence of pre-historic life. One is journeying to prove his findings right; one to prove the other wrong; one to win the hand of his sweet heart and the last just for the adventure.

Performances

Paper Cinema will be appearing at The Forest Cafe, as well as some libraries, community centres and CEC high schools that are participating in the campaign.  If you'd like to experience Paper Cinema's Lost World, then book a performance or see our public events listings.

The pleasure here is not just that the animations are both sinister and enchanting, or that the wonderful music gives the whole thing the feel of a quirky silent movie, but also that you can see how the show is being made right before your eyes. - The Guardian

Duration: 35 minutes
Suitable for P7 and High Schools (age 11+)
