Edinburgh author, Kate Atkinson has won the 2015 Costa Novel Award for the second time in three years with her ninth novel, A God in Ruins, the sequel to the much acclaimed Life After Life, the winner of the 2013 Costa Novel Award.
Scottish award winners include poet Don Paterson with his collection 40 Sonnets winning the poetry category, 12 years after he last won the award.
There are five Costa Book Award categories – novel, first novel, children’s, biography, poetry – with each winner receiving £5,000. The five 2015 winners are all now in the running to win the Costa Book of the Year, the only major UK book prize that is open solely to authors resident in the UK.
Last year’s Costa Book of the Year went to the celebrated H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald.
