Manuscript appraisal by Lesley Glaister

This season of good cheer, keep the writing pen scratching along amid the advent calendars, the mince pies and the Christmas drinks with The Bridge Awards.

Fiction writers are invited to apply for the opportunity to have the opening 5000 words of their novel and a synopsis appraised by award-winning novelist, Lesley Glaister. Completed novels and novels-in-progress are both eligible and the winner will receive written feedback on their work.

To be considered, submit to [email protected] the following as two separate e-mail attachments:

1) A cover sheet detailing your name, full contact details and the title of your novel

2) A 500- word sample of your manuscript and a short summary of your project, including the reasons you would benefit from this award. Your name should not appear anywhere on this document

All attachments should be Word documents (doc, docx), all entries must be received by 5.00 pm on Monday  21 December 2015. The winner will be announced early 2016. Only writers living in Scotland are eligible.

Lesley Glaister

Lesley Glaister is the author of thirteen novels, numerous radio dramas and a stage play. She is the recipient of Betty Trask and Somerset Maugham awards, a Yorkshire Post Author of the Year award and a Jerwood Uncovered award. She teaches Creative Writing at the University of St Andrews and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Find out more about Lesley, her work and her writing on her website.
