Curriculum for Excellence highlights Scots as a key component of bairns’ and weans’ education. Teachers and young people are discovering that learning in Scots can offer fun and constructive pathways into language and literacy.

One of Robert Louis Stevenson’s best loved books is Treasure Island.

Education Scotland has prepared a free downloadable Scots Language RLSDay Teachers Pack for RLS Day. It will help you with lessons that use this popular story to let your pupils explore the Scots language and expand their vocabulary through a range of interdisciplinary experiences.

The pack is aimed at children aged 7-12. There are also some great pirate stories for early years (ages 3-7) in the Scottish Book Trust’s Pirate Book list.

You can find more support and ideas for using Scots in your currriculum in the Scots Language section of the Education Scotland website.
