Congratulations to Edinburgh artist and children’s writer Catherine Rayner and a very smelly dog called Louie!
Catherine’s ninth solo book Smelly Louie has just been named the winner of the Peters Book of the Year 2015 Competition, Picture Book category.
Commenting on the award, Catherine said: ‘Awards give a book a positive boost, and also promote reading by building up excitement and awareness. For me, an award is confirmation that you are doing something right. Being an author and illustrator can be a very solitary job, and getting recognition for a title you’ve worked to hard on makes you feel proud, uplifted, flattered and very excited – all at once!’
And what about Louie? ‘To celebrate, Louie’s made his way back to the Pongy Pond for a good splash about, I can smell him from here. Can you?’
Congratulations to Catherine – and Louie – and we’ll be keeping our fingers and paws crossed for them both as Smelly Louie has been shortlisted for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal, which is announced in June!
