Last night, in the spectacular setting of Prestonfield House, the City of Literature Trust’s Stars and Stories project was announced as the winner of the ‘Working Together for Tourism’ Scottish Thistle Awards, a grouping of tourism awards organised by VisitScotland.
Stars and Stories, a walking trail of 24 illuminated quotations, worked with a range of businesses in the Royal Mile, including the likes of Dynamic Earth, the Scottish Parliament, the Scottish Storytelling Centre, in order to widen the literary appeal of the area to visitors and residents of the city.
The Trust was honoured to be part of such an impressive shortlist this year alongside Rosslyn Chapel and Edinburgh’s Georgian Shadows project (Marketing Edinburgh). With 16 separate and inspiring categories, there was a wealth of talent and diversity to celebrate across the night.
The regional winners of each category will now go on to the national final in March 2018 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
Stars and Stories would not have been possible without the support of the Trust’s generous funders and sponsors – the City of Edinburgh Council, the New Waverley Community Fund, the Edinburgh Tourism Action Group, Scottish Enterprise, Edinburgh World Heritage, Jump Marketing, Bailey Signs, and particularly Creative Scotland, who support the Trust’s programme across the year.
Most importantly, the Trust would also like to thank Edinburgh’s writers and publishers from across the centuries, who serve as inspiration for the work it carries out.
The Stars and Stories project is currently live in the Canongate each evening from 5pm right on up until February 2018, and the Trust warmly invites you to explore the lightbox trail and discover more about Edinburgh’s literary heritage.
