This August, Edinburgh City of literature Trust is celebrating 10 years of showcasing emerging local writers at the Edinburgh International Book Festival through its Story Shop programme.

Story Shop takes place each day at 3pm in the Spiegeltent when a single budding author gets an opportunity to read a short story to the Book Festival’s international audience.

But for one night only, on Monday 29 August, Story Shop will be taking over Charlotte Square Gardens with a special edition of its 10 year old showcase, as part of Unbound’s grand finale to the 2016 Edinburgh International Book Festival.

Starting from 6.30pm, 10 writers from the last 10 years will perform in the gardens in four pop-up storytelling areas.

Members of the public can roam about the gardens and hear stories as two authors perform every fifteen minutes until 9.15pm, coming to an end before the 2016 Virgin Money Fireworks Concert.

The Edinburgh authors performing over the course of the evening are all Story Shoppers from the last 10 years: Ron Butlin (the very first Story Shopper in 2007), Angela Jackson, Gavin Inglis, Mary Paulson-Ellis, Pippa Goldschmidt, Ian Murphy, Helen Jackson, Martin MacInnes, Catherine Simpson and Ross McCleary.

As part of the celebrations, seven authors from six international Cities of Literature will take part in the evening’s festivities.

Our Edinburgh authors will be joined by Goran Vojnović from Ljubljana, Dunedin authors Neville Peat and Iona Winter, Lyubko Deresh from Lviv, Andrew Graves from Nottingham, Sjon from Reykjavík and Megan Bradbury from Norwich.

Eleanor Pender, Communications Executive at Edinburgh City of Literature Trust said,

“It has been a fantastic August celebrating 10 Years of Story Shop and marking over 150 performances since 2007. We are delighted to welcome back 10 Story Shop writers from over the last 10 years and honoured to welcome authors from our sister Cities of Literature, Ljubljana, Dunedin, Lviv, Nottingham, Reykjavík and Norwich joining us especially for this event. It will be an evening full of stories, a night of pop-up storytelling at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, the perfect way to end this celebratory year of Story Shop.”
