Our sister UNESCO Creative City Dundee, which became a City of Design in 2014, has been getting a lot of press recently, thanks to the opening of the beautiful V&A Dundee on the waterfront. However, you may know that one of the most famous Dundonian exports turned 80 this year, and so we wanted to take a moment to say happy birthday to the Beano!
Edinburgh City of Literature loves literature in all its forms, so we were delighted by this look back over the history of one of the world’s most famous comics from publisher D.C Thomson. In an issue back in 2012, Dennis the Menace visited Edinburgh zoo, resulting in the resident pandas – Tian Tian and Yan Guang – being immortalised in the comic.
Visitors planning a trip up to Scotland’s UNESCO City of Design can combine a look round the V&A with a visit to the McManus Museum, renamed the McMenace in honour of the Beano’s birthday celebrations.
