I saw a triangle slicing the water fifteen feet away. It was a shark's fin. An awful tingle, cold and liquid, went up and down my spine.

Information

A book festival but by West Port rules. This enclave of Edinburgh is known for its unconventional combination of literary goldmines and thrills of a more hedonistic kind but West Port Book Festival has been going from strength to strength.

The calavcade of 2012 events include robots, penguins, Two Shades of Gaelic, chips, book covers, Young Adult Fiction, tall tales, seductive stories, brilliant authors and much more.

Have you ever been to a literary event in a chip shop? Now's your chance. Or maybe you'd like to join the brave souls at Wince!, who will share their most cringeworthy writing with a, hopefully, sympathetic audience.

Perhaps an in-depth discussion of YA literature or a talk from the Itinerant Poetry Librarian is more your cup of tea. Just pick your poison and secure a place to park your behind.

Intrigued? Cast your discerning eye on their beautiful, bountiful programme, or follow them on twitter to keep up with the latest happenings.
