RLS Day?
January 25th may have haggis, Burns and tartan but put this Thursday 17th November on the literary calendar. Join us on #RLSDay by wearing velvet to celebrate the ‘Velvet Jacket’ man himself, world famous author and Edinburgh lad, Robert Louis Stevenson. Here at City of Literature, with our friends at Edinburgh Napier University, we’re donning velvet and planning a host of activities, on the streets and online.
Stevenson on the streets... Stevenson was opinionated about the city of his birth and it was an inspiration for his writing.
So look out for pithy comments from his Edinburgh writing, Picturesque Notes, which will appear on the streets, as if by the hand of Stevenson himself, at specially selected locations across Edinburgh.
Those with smartphones can access new website content using QR codes as part of the launch of a new virtual literary trail on this website.
A lucky few will find free copies of Kidnapped and Jekyll & Hyde to keep! A Stevenson Evening...
#RLSDay 2011 will come to a glittering finale at the City Art Centre with a special Edinburgh Napier University event with Ian Rankin and actor and author Nigel Planer, celebrating their love of Robert Louis Stevenson.
Go digital...
RLS enthusiasts across the globe can also follow the celebration on Twitter @EdinCityofLit where RLS facts, activity photos and links to the new virtual trail will be tweeted throughout the day.
On the day remember #RLSDay and visit www.cityofliterature.com to see all the new Stevenson goodies. The site for all things Stevenson... To brush up on your Stevenson visit the authoratative RLS Website at robert-louis-stevenson.org
