Information

Blackwell’s is delighted to welcome Jane Cooper to lead us through an evening of creative writing.

Sometimes you don’t know what to write about. Sometimes you don’t know how to write better. 365 Ways To Get You Writing will get you past both these problems by providing daily inspiration and advice.
Some writing books contain only tasks – sometimes rather trivial or contrived ones. Some writing books are full of wisdom but give you little to do. Jane Cooper’s 365 Ways is different. Each short chapter opens with advice, examples and instructions. Then there are four exercises for writers to try. The chapters end with ideas of how to take your writing further.
The exercises in the book lead to prose fiction, personal writing, poetry and even journalism. Working through the book will teach you how to build characters and get them speaking realistically, how to show rather than tell, how to choose which tense and person works best, and much more besides.

Jane Cooper lives in Edinburgh where she teaches English and Creative Writing. She’s the author of six successful school textbooks, and 365 Ways is her first book for adults. During our evening together she’ll take you through some of the tasks from the book, using strange props, surprising cards and crunchy sweeties to bring them to life.

Remember to bring a notebook and pen!

This event is ticketed, but tickets are FREE. Tickets are available from the front desk at Blackwell's.
