Blackwell's Bookshop invites you to an evening of poetry with readings by Chrys Salt, Tessa Ransford and Pauline Prior-Pitt. Tessa Ransford (www.wisdomfield.com) is an established poet, translator, literary editor and cultural activist. She was Founder and Director of the Scottish Poetry Library and initiated the annual Callum Macdonald Memorial Award for publishers of pamphlet poetry in Scotland, now in its twelfth year www.scottish-pamphlet-poetry.com. She has had Royal Literary Fund fellowships at the Centre for Human Ecology and Queen Margaret University and was president of Scottish PEN from 2003-6.
Not Just Moonshine, New and Selected Poems was published by Luath Press, Edinburgh (2008) and a new book of poems is due, as well as a two-way translation book with Glasgow based Palestinian poet Iyad Hayatleh, of poems based on the five pillars of Islam entitled A rug of a thousand colours.
Pauline Prior Pitt (www.pauline-prior-pitt.com) will be reading poems from her collection, Addresses & Dreams and from her latest pamphlet, More Precious than Moons. Her poems, alternately funny and poignant are deeply rooted in the life of the Hebridean island she inhabits and beautifully reflect the preoccupations of a woman as she grows older. Pauline’s poems have appeared on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, Pick of the Week, With Great Pleasure, and Poetry Please; and on Channel 4 Television. Her one woman shows attract sell out audiences in Festivals. She is the author of five poetry collections and was the winner of the 2006 Callum Macdonald Award for North Uist Sea Poems.
Chrys Salt (www.chryssalt.com) will be reading from her new collection GRASS (Pub: Indigo Dreams 1012). Her work is widely published and has been broadcast on Radio 3 and 4. She has performed at major festivals and venues country-wide, in Europe and the USA. She has published four poetry collections, writes books, theatre and radio plays, features and documentaries and has been the recipient of a National Media Award (for Here We Go: women’s memories of the 1984/85 Miners’ Strike) among other awards, grants and residencies. Chrys divides her time between London and SW Scotland where she runs The Bakehouse, a flourishing arts venue. www.thebakehouse.info
