Information
Who says reading is a solitary pursuit? Not us! Come and join the Blackwell Book Group for lively, friendly book chatter. No previous experience required! We will meet monthly to discuss a wide range of books—fiction and non-fiction, classic and contemporary, prizewinners and cult heroes—in short, whatever you fancy! Our current book: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak What is the book about? 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier. Liesel, a nine-year-old girl, is living with a foster family on Himmel Street. Her parents have been taken away to a concentration camp. Liesel steals books. This is her story and the story of the inhabitants of her street when the bombs begin to fall. The meeting in August is on Monday 20th August at our usual time of 6pm, but we will be meeting at the Edinburgh International Book Festival to soak up some of the atmosphere in Charlotte Square Gardens (weather permitting). In September we are meeting on Monday 17th September at 6pm, and we will be discussing Jerusalem by Patrick Neate. We offer 10 percent discount on the current book to Book Group members. So join today! Just email your name and address details to events.edinburgh@blackwell.co.uk.
