Apart from the biggie, the Edinburgh International Book Festival, there are several, smaller but no less important literary festivals in Edinburgh.

Portobello Book Festival

The Portobello Book Festival is a brilliant programme of book readings and literary events in Edinburgh’s charming seaside libraries, book shops and cafe venues. This year it will run over the weekend of  3rd, 4th and 5th October 2014.

Duddingston Festival

The Duddingston festival takes place in May every year in Edinburgh, located in one of the city’s oldest, prettiest areas. The festival has been developing an increasingly robust literary strand to its programme in recent years, making it an annual must for bibliophiles.

Christian Aid Book Sale Edinburgh

This is one of Edinburgh’s largest book sales. Since it started 40 years ago the sale has raised over £2m for Christian Aid’s work to end poverty.

The Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association was founded in 1974 with just 20 members. Its primary aim was to provide provincial bookdealers with a shop window in London by holding regular book fairs. Nearly 40 years later it has over 500 members and regularly organises more than 80 antiquarian and secondhand book fairs a year.
